They are not exactly silent but they must not be, as they observe their targets from the air and possess keen vision even in absolute darkness, making them practically unreachable for their enemies.

You can use bats to carry out espionage on enemy colonies and other structures. However, your chances of success can be reduced if the target has a strong city wall. The chances for successful espionage of a colony increase proportionally with the number of bats you send; your chances increase by 1% for every 3 bats you send (i.e. you have a 100% chance of success if the target colony has no city wall or e.g. it has a level 10 wall and you send 300 bats). When spying on estates and war camps your chances of success are 100% even when sending only a single spy unit. When the espionage fails some of your units will be killed!
